Ministries + Serving Opportunities

No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted. - Aesop

Serving others, both in the community and around the world, is one of our core values at LPC. From feeding the homeless to community events, you'll find a variety of ways to get involved. Please contact the church office for information. We look forward to serving with you.

Bag Ladies

When: 2nd Saturdays @ 9 am in Benz Hall

Since 2008, the Bag Ladies have sewn, assembled, and delivered 540 Welcome Bags each year to Hubbard House. These colorful drawstring bags, filled with comfort items and toys, are given to children who are being sheltered there with their mothers.

The Bag Ladies have continued to complete 45 of these comfort bags each month. Today, we have volunteers from several Baptist, Catholic, Episcopalian, and non-denominational churches. The Bag Ladies is open to men & women. Children 5 and up are welcome with a parent.

Buildings & Grounds

When: As needed throughout the year

The Building & Grounds ministry is project based to serve the needs of the campus and buildings. Everyday needs around the campus are handled by maintenance but large projects in scope are handled by Buildings & Grounds. We respond to issues that are identified by maintenance and are prioritized according to need and budget.

Christian Education

When: On-going throughout the  school year

The Christian Education Ministry provides opportunities to dive deeper in your walk with Jesus through Sunday School offerings for all ages, Youth Confirmation Classes, and small group studies. Additional activities include Vacation Bible School, Easter Eggs Hunts for the community & church family, Pancake Breakfast, Christmas Eve Live Nativity, and more.

The LPC Youth Group is open to students entering 6th grade - 12th grade and meets weekly on Sunday afternoons during the school year.

Christian Education works in conjunction with the Lakewood Presbyterian Preschool to provide a Christian Education foundation for children 1 year old & walking through 4 years old.

Communications

When: As needed throughout the year

The Communications Ministry creates effective and consistent communication content to inform our congregation and community regarding the life & activities of LPC. We update & monitor the LPC Facebook page, craft press releases, and support church-led ministries to create campaigns that promote events and invite visitors to experience the work God is doing at LPC.

Congregational Care

When: Ongoing throughout the year

Our Congregational Care Ministry shows love for the members of our church family by sending cards to the sick or bereaved, delivering holiday flowers to homebound members, remembering our out-of-town students with occasional cards and small gifts, providing refreshments following funeral services, and meals to those who have a short-term need.

Family Life

When: On-going throughout the year

The Family Life Ministry organizes fellowship opportunities for our members and community. We welcome volunteers of all ages and experience levels as we work alongside other ministries to plan events such as the annual Community Easter Egg Hunt, all-church luncheons, Wednesday night dinners, programs, and outside events (like sports events & trips to the theatre). We come together to learn, share, laugh, and fellowship.

Office Volunteers

When: Monday - Friday, 8 am - 12 pm & 12 pm - 3 pm

Answering the phone, directing visitors, and special projects are just a few of the tasks that await you as an office volunteer.

Outreach

When: As needed throughout the year

There is something for everyone in Outreach. Through various local and international charities, we supply clothing, meals, bus passes, blood donations, and more. Committments range from one-time to quarterly and are available year-round.

Sulzbacher Meals

When: November 16, 2023

Four times a year we provide dinner for our homeless and hungry neighbors. Dinner prep begins at 2:30 pm and dinner is served at 5 pm. You can volunteer for dinner prep, dinner service, or both. Visit the Upcoming Events page to register.

Trunk or Treat

When: The last Sunday in October

Trunk or Treat is an LPC annual event open to the Lakewood community. Featuring games, food, music, a costume contest, and of course trick or treating, it is an event that takes a lot of volunteers to successfully host. Preliminary planning begins in the spring and gears up in the fall as Halloween approaches.

Ushers

When: On-going, as needed

We are always looking for volunteers to help out when a need arises during a service. There are four Duty Elders scheduled each week for the Sunday morning service. Ushers are asked to fill in if a Duty Elder is absent. Tasks included greeting, handing out bulletins, or collecting offering.

Vacation Bible School

When: 1 week in June

Vacation Bible School (VBS) is a summer tradition at LPC. For one week during the summer, retirees become worship leaders, CPAs become tech guys, and high school students become arts & craft specialists. Without the help of all our volunteers we couldn't share the love of Jesus with the children in our community.

Worship

When: As needed throughout the year

The Worship Ministry’s responsibilities encompass the many components necessary for all worship services, from the chancel flowers and communion elements to changing the banners and liturgical colors. Our volunteers serve during worship services as acolytes and video & sound technicians. We also offer support for baptisms, weddings, and funerals.
