Serving with Christ's Hands

This is part of our LPC motto. We do this through the various ministries at our church. Volunteers are needed to bake food for funeral receptions, clean pews, visit homebound members, teach Sunday School, work in our kitchen and many other tasks. If you are willing to help in some capacity, please contact the church office and we will match your skills with a ministry. It takes many volunteers to operate our programs and we appreciate everyone's help. Below are just some of the ways in which volunteers are needed.

Christian Education

We are in need of leaders for Young Disciples (K - 3rd grades) and Awesome Angels (4th & 5th grades). Young Disciples meet every Sunday, except the first Sunday of the month, following the Children's Time. Awesome Angels meet on the 2nd and 3rd Sunday of each month, also following the Children's Time. If you would like to be part of this exciting ministry, please contact Doris York. The more leaders we have, the less commitment for everyone.

Go-Getters

The Congregational Care Ministry is looking for a few great volunteers. Periodically we need folks to help our members with transportation to doctors, delivering a home-cooked meal, or to take care of small household chores. This is not an on-going commitment, but we are trying to compile a list of volunteers who we can call as needed. If you are willing to help in some way, please contact Diane Pilinski.

Hospitality Team

Most of us have experienced the death of a loved one. During this difficult time, the LPC family provides support in many ways including offering to host a reception/luncheon following the funeral. Time and time again, family members have expressed their appreciation to us for this service. If you are able to help in any way, such as dropping off food or working in the kitchen periodically, please contact Frances Hallett. The more volunteers, the lighter the load for everyone, so please prayerfully consider helping us.

Wednesday Night Dinner Dishwasher

If you are a young person looking to make some extra money, we have a great opportunity. The Wednesday Night @ LPC crew is looking for someone to wash dishes and help clean the kitchen after dinner. If you are 14 years or older and interested in applying, please contact Hope Brank or Kristen Peterson.

Wednesday Night @ LPC

Our Family Life Ministry is looking for help planning programs for the Wednesday Night @ LPC dinners. If you are interested in scheduling interesting speakers and presentation, please contact Kristen Peterson. This is a great opportunity to provide our congregation with fun and exciting programs.

Outreach Mission Fair Crafts

Calling all crafters! We will again be offering our crafts at the Mission Fair in November, 2016, like we did last year. Proceeds go directly to the Mission specified by either the seller or the buyer. Please start knitting, crocheting, tole painting, sewing, wood working, painting or any other talent that you can offer! The displays were colorful, exciting and a treat to the eye!

Sound System

The Worship Ministry is looking for volunteers to join our current rotation of people who run our sound system on Sunday mornings. Previous experience is not required and training will be provided. If you can help, especially during our 8:30 a.m. Worship Service, please contact William Wilson or the church office.

Troupers

Ever have the urge to play a part on a stage? Ever been terrified by the idea? Here is your chance to act and overcome your fears! Linda Allen is our resident playwright. You've seen her plays at Advent and Lent. Humor, wit, and a deep message are contained in a very short performance. Come and join us! We need people to take part. Linda provides the scripts and the direction. You provide the voice! Learn more about the Troupers here and contact Linda Allen, if you're interested.

Ushering

Our Stewardship Ministry has introduced us to the theme of Serve More Eagerly. If you are looking for a way to live out this theme, ushering during our Worship Services might be the perfect opportunity for you. If you can serve periodically at either the 8:30 a.m. or 11:00 a.m. service, please contact the church office. This is a great way to serve your church family.

News from the Nursery

There is a need for volunteers who are willing to be in the nursery when the regular attendant is absent or to be a second person in the room with the attendant to meet child protection policy requirements. If you have had Child Protection Training or are willing to be trained and could be a volunteer or substitute for nursery coverage on Sunday mornings or Wednesday evenings, please contact Lenora Wilson. It would be ideal to have a list of willing volunteers to provide coverage on a rotating or "as needed" basis.

Worship Ministry

The Worship Ministry is committed to the continuing development and enhancement of our worship experience. This dedicated group is responsible for acolytes, flowers, banners, music, sound, pew maintenance, ushers, communion elements and much more. One of their awesome volunteers, Karin Marsh, will soon be moving so the ministry needs help recruiting and scheduling users. If you can help with this or any of their other responsibilities, please contact Lenora Wilson, Moderator.

Youth/Young Adult: Sponsors

This summer, we will send a small group of senior high students to The Presbyterian Youth Triennium and a group of young adults to Cincinnati on a mission trip. We have deliberately priced the trips below the cost to make them affordable for our young people and their families. If you would like to help our youth/young adults travel, you can sponsor a youth/young adult. In this way, you can be personally involved in the trip. You will receive a prayer card with a picture of the youth/young adult that you are sponsoring and a sponsor certificate. You will receive a postcard from your youth/young adult on the trip.

You will be recognized in the bulletin and on the Sunday that we pray for them. The cost to sponsor an LPC young person is $50. Please contact Brian (brian@lpcjax.org), if you would like to be involved.

Who Do I Ask If I Want to Serve?

Our session members chair our ministries, but it is you, our congregation, who they need to serve on the ministries and help with the work and mission of Lakewood Presbyterian Church. Please contact a ministry chair below to offer your services to them (contact information can be found in your church directory).
