After Life... Then What?

Sermon Texts:  1 Corinthians 15:20-22, John 12:27-32, John 14:1-3 & Revelation 21:1-4

Books, Movies and TV shows are often predicated on the reading of a WILL. I can still remember all the drama and legal suits that followed the death of Howard Hughes. Everyone was in line hoping that his or her name would be read when the will was opened. And even more bizarre, is that as recently as 2012, Walt Disney’s heirs were still fighting and struggling to determine exactly just WHO’S IN and WHO’S OUT of his extensive will … that’s 46 years after his death!
So have you been to the reading of a will? Some people don’t even show up because they don’t want to be embarrassed. They say, “What if everybody is sitting there having their names called out, finding out what they get … and they don’t call my name and there I sit. Then what? I think I’ll just wait and let the lawyers notify me.”
Or, maybe you’re thinking now of those wills that have been read where the father’s angry at the children, gives them all one dollar and then gives away the money to some obscure project.
Or maybe you’re thinking about the millionaire who gave his estate to the cat and made sure the cat had idyllic living conditions.
Some of the stories are humorous … but the reality is: Many are left out of the will.
