To Know Know Know You Is To Love Love Love You

Sermon Text:  John 14:6-9a &  18-23

We are coming to the close of the liturgical year and beginning a new year with Advent in two weeks.  It is appropriate we look at Jesus’ Farewell Address, as recorded by John.
    Now I’ve got to tell you, inspiration for sermons comes in strange ways at times … even in the shower.  Here goes:
            To know, know, know you; Is to love, love, love you.
        Just to see your smile, makes my life worthwhile.
        To know, know, know you; Is to love, love, love you;
        And I do [and I do], and I do [and I do], and I do.
    I’m not sure just how much inspiration from God is in that song, but the words helped me focus the direction I felt I needed to go as we prepare, once again, to launch into the Advent season.
    You see, we all are in relationships ... right?  We are loved and we love, and most of the time those loving relationships and special friendships … require a lot of effort on our part.  It takes time to get to know someone intimately … we’ve got to Know, Know, Know them before we can Love, Love, Love them.  Spending the time necessary in getting to KNOW … so that we might better LOVE.
    And this should be our response to a loving God: Spending the time necessary in getting to Know … so that we might better Love.  Do YOU Know God through Jesus Christ?  Do YOU have a RELATIONSHIP with Him?  Jesus said, “I am the way...”..
