Paul's Letter to American Christians - 10/11/2009

Sermon text: Philippians 3: 12-21

When we first started talking about our “theme” worship services for the month of October, I wasn’t sure what I’d preach on this particular Sunday.  I wanted to do it right, but couldn’t, for the life of me, come up with an idea that I felt represented what I hoped to achieve.  It was then that I started thinking about Martin Luther King, Jr.  I read dozens of his sermons and after much consideration decided that, indeed, to do the “theme” justice I should preach one of his.  I’ve never done anything like this before and to tackle one of King’s sermons … well, let’s just say I have been awestruck as I’ve read the content of this man’s mind and heart. ...
