Let Me Give You a Hint…07/10/2011

Sermon text: Matthew 13:1-9, 18-23

I am beginning a three part series today entitled: Jesus’ Parables of the Kingdom. The lectionary, over these next few weeks, directs our attention to this all important aspect of the mission of Christ, one that we, as Presbyterian Christians hold in high esteem. The sixth Great End of the Church from our Book of Order is my favorite: We are to be the exhibition of the kingdom of heaven to the world. (G-1.0200) Therefore, we better have an understanding of its implications for our life together. Today, as we begin, I’d like for us to consider clues Jesus gives us for recognizing the kingdom. As the Psalmist writes: “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Let’s see where the path will lead today…Read full sermon here (PDF).
