Bucket Lists: Vision and Hope - 10/30/2011

Sermon text:  Joel 2:28, Matthew 6:31-33, Colossians 3:1; 12-17

   Back in 2008 there was a very good movie released, The Bucket List, with Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson … have you ever seen it?  Two terminally ill men develop a list of ALL the things they have always wanted to do and in the movie they go after their task with a great sense of urgency.  Now … There are people predicting that the mainline church is terminally ill … that it will cease to exist in this century.  What about Lakewood Presbyterian Church?  Will WE cease to exist?  Are we terminal?  I don’t believe the mainline church is headed toward distinction and I don’t think that our church family is going to die either.  But if we were to make a Bucket List … what would be on our list?

   The Heart Report this week asks “What do I want to see happen in the coming year at LPC?”  We’re going to be talking about this is a bit.  However, I wonder in what ways do your passions for the church align with your personal desires?  Be thinking about that and I’ll be sharing MY passions for our church in this coming year in a moment, but first … let’s take a look at the Biblical texts to see how they might be directing us. … Read full sermon here (PDF)
